Friday, 19 October 2007

Roma (Agenzia Fides) - The whole of the Chinese world is mobilising intensely to celebrate World Mission Sunday with the universal Church. According to reports sent to Fides from the continent, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and Chinese overseas communities, the Day is being prepared with prayers, meetings, retreats, works of charity and renewed devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she may protect missionary work for the evangelisation of the world.
“We are making every effort to tell people about the Catholic faith and to increase missionary awareness among our parishioners” said the parish priest at Hai Xing (Star of the Sea) parish in the diocese of Hong Kong. According to Hong Kong diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao the parish has already celebrated Mission Sunday on a theme connected with the Year of the Family called by the diocese: “Family Joy and Happiness” was the title of a missionary festival organised by the parish on 30 September in a public park. There was an exhibition of panels telling the history of the parish, parish catechism, pastoral work for children, prison visiting etc. The parishioners distributed leaflets and offered free services for example medical examinations, psychological counselling, elements of gardening...
On the continent, the Catholic community of Jiang Bei, in the diocese of Chong Qing, commemorated the 110th anniversary of the death of St Therese of Lisieux urging Catholics to imitate the patron saint of the missions and to prepare spiritually for Mission Sunday. The Rosary group of the Catholic community of He Bei launched a campaign of charity work putting into practice the meaning of Mission Sunday. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 19/10/2007 - righe 25, parole 325)
