Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - "In Mexico we have prepared to celebrate the missionary month of October and especially World Mission Sunday with greater efforts for various programmes of missionary animation to increase mission awareness among the different sectors of the people of God in our country" Fr Carlos Navarrete, national secretary of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Mexico said in a report to Fides.
As every year the PMS office distributed all over the country: 55,000 Mission Sunday 2007 posters with the theme "All the Churches for all the World", bearing the words Prayer, Material Help, Sacrifice and Witness; 20,000 copies of special Catechesis on five themes drawn from the recent 5th General Conference of the Council of Bishops' Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean in Aparecida: "Whose disciples are we?"; "the Disciple and Mission in the light of St Mark "; "Witnesses of Jesus"; "Disciples and Missionaries"; "Disciples to be Missionaries”. Included with the catechesis tables and figures on missionary needs in the world as well as information on the founders of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Moreover as usual 7 million envelopes have been distributed all over the country in view of the special Mission Sunday collections on Sunday 21 October
Other mission animation material sent to radio stations, parishes and schools includes 20,000 DVDs with the Mission Sunday Message of Pope Benedict XVI and a comment by PMS national director Fr. Guillermo Morales, who warmly encourages all Mexicans to take part in Mission Sunday celebrations and initiatives, as well as a few short mission videos and four brief mission spots for radio and television.
Fr. Navarrete said initiatives to encourage the celebration of the missionary month of October promoted by diocesan PMS directors every diocese include courses and meetings, missionary animation, mission retreats and days of reflection, presentation of the four Pontifical Mission Societies.
The national Holy Childhood Mission Society has programmes of mission animation in schools with the distribution of Mission Sunday collection boxes. Intensive mission animation has been promoted by 150 Youth Mission League groups all over the country.
"The most important aspect of our campaign - Fr. Navarrete concludes - is to encourage all our co-workers, our missionary sick people and ourselves to pray intensely that the Lord Jesus who sends us on mission will give us his Spirit of fortitude to be His witnesses with our missionary activity and truly be ‘the whole Church for the whole world ".
