AMERICA/COSTA RICA - PMS handbook for the month of October: “May mission increasingly become a reality with the face and the name of many brothers born in our Christian communities”

San José (Agenzia Fides) - The Pontifical Mission Societies in Costa Rica will celebration Mission Sunday on 21 October with the theme "With Christ: listen, learn and announce", Ms Elieth Robles, PMS national secretary said in a report to Fides. Material issued for the occasion includes a poster with the slogan, leaflets, a handbook for liturgies on the four Sundays of the missionary month of October, television and radio spots being broadcast by Catholic media all over the country. The Masses on the four Sundays this month are broadcast live on television.
For the third consecutive year the PMS published a handbook for formation and prayer in the month of October with the title: "Catechesis and Liturgies in the Missionary Month of October". The handbook contains Pope Benedict XVI message for World Mission Sunday 2007; four themes for mission formation for use in parish mission groups and movements: “We are the disciples and missionaries of today”; “The missionary command of Jesus”; “All the Churches for the whole world”; “Missionary cooperation”. It gives also four schema for Hours of Adoration, one for each week and a mission theme for children. The handbook was prepared by Alexander Q. Castillo, lay PMS collaborator in Costa Rica. Some 12,000 free copies have been distributed to parishes all over the country.
In the presentation National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Costa Rica Fr. Edgar Orozco, said the Church in his country “must take courage and announce Christ in all those environments, realities and places where His name is not known or has been put aside by materialism, superficiality, desperation or indifference". He calls on Christians Costa Rica " to find concrete ways of organisation, formation, logistics etc. to send missionaries to other latitudes. May mission become increasingly a reality with the face and the name of many brothers and sisters born in our Christian communities. May this blessed land rely on priests, religious and lay people who dedicate their lives to sharing with the world the experience of being close to the Lord Jesus ".
