OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - Australian Sisters of Loreto work with poor young people in rural areas and on mission ad gentes in Vietnam

Melbourne (Agenzia Fides) - Thanks to them young people in rural communities in Australia are able to study and grow in the faith; thanks to them young people of poor families in Vietnam have food, medical care and the opportunity to study and hope for a better future. The Australian community of Loreto Sisters continues its mission at the service of young people at home and abroad.
At home the Sisters offer social assistance to young people in need, they help unmarried mothers have and bring up their children. A specific area for evangelisation is promotion of women in the Church and in society, and they also work to promote justice and peace and protection of the environment”.
In this year of 2007 the Loreto Sisters have been celebrating 110 years of presence and the opening of the first Loreto School. Celebration initiatives included seminars and conferences to assess their activity in Catholic education and plan new strategies for education in the 21st century.
Part of the Loreto Sisters mission ad gentes commitment is Loreto-Vietnam Programme started ten years ago to help very poor children in Vietnam to live, receive medical care, study grants for school and university.
