Wednesday, 3 October 2007

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - To grow in faith and respond willingly to the Lord's call were the aims of a Catholic Youth Day held in Taiwan, 22 - 26 August: “Love one another as I have loved you" was the theme. The 400 young participants from all 7 dioceses on the Island also reflected on Pope Benedict XVI Message for World Youth Day. According to Tai Pei diocese Christian Life Weekly, the Day was organised by the Youth Pastoral Commission of the Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference, in collaboration with the Tai Nan diocesan Commission for Youth Apostolate which was the main discussion point of the day. Bishop Tomaso Chung, auxiliary of the archdiocese of Tai Pei, explained the reason for the initiative: “We wish to encourage our young people in their faith and help them prepare to take part in World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia next year”. Taiwan Youth Day included a prayer vigil, the Way of the Cross devotion and a pilgrimage to the local Marian Shrine. The young pilgrims walked 13 kilometres and as they went they greeted people with a blessing: " The Lord blesses you, the Lord loves you ”. Bishop Chung said: “This was to help the young people have the courage to show and share the faith always and everywhere”. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 3/10/2007 - righe 19, parole 252 )
