ASIA/TAIWAN “Our Family of Immigrants” theme of 11th Immigrants Day organised by the Catholic community following the teaching of Pope John Paul II

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - Every year Immigrants Day in the diocese of Tai Pei is an opportunity for the people to encounter and share different cultures and customs, food and dancing and songs. 'Our Family of Immigrants' was the theme of this 11th Immigrants Day organised by the Catholic community to follow the teaching of Pope John Paul II. Each year the local Church chooses a day which it dedicates to foreign workers who contribute to the development of the Island. According to Tai Pei archdiocesan bulletin Christian Life Weekly “Our Family of Immigrants” 11th Immigrants Day was celebrated on 30 September. Each diocese organised special events for the Day with the help of parish groups and church movements. More than a thousands immigrants from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Vietnam, United States, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Italy, Hong Kong and Africa took part in the festivities forming a great society without frontiers. Auxiliary Bishop of Tai Pei, Bishop Tommaso Chung, presided the celebration welcoming those present. Representatives of different religions took part praying for immigrants and their families.
