AMERICA/BOLIVIA - Sixth Meeting for Brazilian Missionaries present in Bolivia: to strengthen and renew missionary ardour in the face of many challenges

Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Agenzia Fides) - The Sixth Meeting for Brazilian Missionaries present in Bolivia was held 7 - 9 September at Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Bolivia reported to Fides. These meetings, held every two years, are an opportunity for fraternal encounter of communion, reciprocal support, reinvigoration and renewal of the life of missionaries present in the country. Fr. Daniel Lagni, National Director of the PMS in Brazil was present at the meeting to express solidarity and encouragement to the missionaries from his country.
At present there are 140 Brazilian missionaries serving in Bolivia, priests, men and women religious and a few people. The country's political, social and ecclesial reality presents numerous challenges for missionaries. The indigenous culture is still very present in the country, social conflict and poverty is widespread. Many missionaries, especially women religious live in conditions of extreme poverty and in areas of conflict.
