Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - Aboriginal communities in the province of Resistencia recently contested health minister Ricardo Mayol, regarding him responsible for the serious lack of healthcare services in the area.
The community delegates asked Archbishop Fabriciano Sigampa to urge the local Church authorities to demand that the provincial executive dismiss the head of the health ministry.
Orlando Charole chairman of the Istituto Aborigeno Chaqueño, confirmed a decision taken at a meeting of Aboriginal communities in Paso Sosa, and spoke of ‘profound suffering’ among the members of Toba, Wichí and Mocovíes communities due to poor healthcare service for native peoples. The towns which form the department of Güemes, with Castelli as main city, are one of the most critical zones in the provincial healthcare panorama.
In that are eight people died of acute malnutrition and there are many cases of TB and chagas, which threaten to spread to other areas of the province.
“Many aborigines in the interior have been admitted to hospital for treatment for TB, malnutrition and chagas, all caused by neglect on the part of the public services and the absence of a serious and responsible healthcare policy”, Mr Charole concluded.
