AMERICA/PERU - FIRST SUB-REGIONAL MEETING OF ANDES GROUP FOR THE PASTORAL CARE OF CHILDREN

Lima (Fides Service) – The first sub-regional meeting of the Andes group for Pastoral Care of Children was held in Lima, Peru, 13-15 May. The purpose of the meeting was to present a Guide for the Pastoral Care of Children, prepared by members of Brazilian Pastoral Care of Children and offered for use by other countries who may adapt it to their own situations in view of better Pastoral Care of Children.
The meeting was organised jointly by the Peruvian Bishops Conference’s department for Pastoral Care of Children and the Brazilian Church’s same department. It was attended by some fifty delegates of Pastoral Care of Children from the Bishops’ Conferences of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. Among those who addressed the meeting: Archbishop Aloyso José Leal Penna of Botucatú, President of Brazil’s Commission for Pastoral Care of Children; Bishop Juan Antonio Ugarte Pérez Prelate of Yauyos and President of the Peruvian Bishops’ Commission for the Family; Zilda Arns Neumann (Brazil); Oswaldo Legón UNICEP delegate for Latin America and Mr and Mrs Carlos and Rosa Torrejón, executive secretaries of the Department for Pastoral Care of Children in Peru.
