OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - In preparation for WYD8 young Australians reflect on “Experience of God and the snares of New Age trends”

Thursday, 26 July 2007

Melbourne (Agenzia Fides) - The uniqueness of the incarnate God, Jesus Christ made Man; the evanescence and deceit of new trends such as New Age which propose a pseudo-religious experience, a combination of syncretism, individualism, emotionalism. These two themes are the subject for a special Day of Reflection in view of the 23rd World Youth Day, in Sydney in July next year.
The Day of Reflection on August 5 at the Melbourne Shrine of Divine Mercy, will be the start of intensive months of spiritual preparation for the great Church event in July 2008.
Young Australians are ready to respond with enthusiasm to Pope Benedict XVI's call to share their faith in Jesus Christ with other young people and they are rehearsing various spectacles of dance, music and culture all focussed on the figure of Christ and the WYD theme: "You will receive the power of the Holy Spirit and you will be my witnesses".
The next WYD offers young people in Oceania to reflect on the transcendent dimension of life and build a personal relationship with God. WYD organisers are certain the event will strengthen the faith of believers and bring non believers to many to know about Jesus Christ and his Church. In a spirit of widespread enthusiasm, bishops, priest, religious and lay men and women are optimistic about the future of the Church in their part of the world.
