Friday, 20 July 2007

Port Victoria (Agenzia Fides) - The first Rosary Groups in Seychelles were formed in the diocese of Port Victoria-Seychelles in 1982 and the following year they were affiliated to the international movement. Today the diocese has 48 groups, five of which are formed of young people, subdivided in 5 sectors. “In 25 years our Rosary Groups have grown not only in quantity but also in spiritual quality” says Mgr Adrien Wiehe in the latest edition of L’Écho des Iles Catholic monthly published by the diocese of Port Victoria-Seychelles . More than 350 people of all different ages gathered at Saint Therese church in Plaisance, to celebrate the Rosary Groups' silver jubilee with a special mass of thanksgiving.
“Rosary Groups form a movement recognised by the universal Church whose purpose is to announce the word of God within the framework of Marian spirituality. It is a missionary movement and a school of prayer. As we meditate the mysteries of the Rosary we reflect on the life of Jesus and with Mary we learn to live and act as disciples of her divine Son.” Says Mgr. Wiehe. With regard to the future, the Port Victoria Rosary Groups will work to lead more young people and more professionals, “through Mary to know Jesus better ”. (S.L.)
