Camaguey (Agenzia Fides) - Some 396 Holy Childhood children and 72 leaders representing all eleven dioceses in Cuba took part in the 3rd National Holy Childhood Meeting in Camaguey, Cuba, 13 - 15 Fr. Raúl Rodríguez Dago, national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Cuba told Fides.
"We are missionaries of the world with Jesus and Mary" the children chanted with enthusiasm at the end of the special Mass presided by the Archbishop of Camaguey Juan García Rodríguez, who is also president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference. For three days the little missionaries shared experience of missionary activity in their respective communities. They thanked God for 15 years of mission among children since the Holy Childhood Society in the pilgrim Church in Cuba resumed its activity.
One of the objectives of the Meeting was in fact to celebrate these 15 years of Holy Childhood activity which disappeared from Cuba when Catholic schools were nationalised in 1961. The Society resumed its activity in 1992 in the diocese of Camaguey which is why this diocese hosted the meeting at the diocesan House de la Merced. Among those present at the Holy Childhood Meeting, Sr Martha Yanet Alonso who in 1992 was one of four ten year old children and a catechist who formed the first Holy Childhood group in the parish of Santa Ana in Camaguey.
The little missionaries also discussed new ways of mission in their dioceses. Initiatives during the Meeting included the arrival the Image of Our Lady of Charity, first missionary in Cuba, a warm welcome to Holy Childhood mascot Antenna Missionaria, and some of the most popular personages of Cuban children's stories (RG) (Agenzia Fides 17/7/2007; righe 24, parole 331)
