Luanda (Agenzia Fides) - Continuing his Pastoral Visit to Angola (see Fides 9 July 2007) the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples Cardinal Ivan Dias, after meeting on 13 July seminarians and missionaries in Luanda, Viana and Caxito, went to the enclave of Cabinda on Saturday 14 July.
In his address to missionaries in Luanda, Cardinal Dias urged them not to be discouraged by difficulties, reminding them that the greater the obstacles, the greater the grace which God gives to those who confide in Him with humility and simplicity of heart.
Addressing local seminarians the Cardinal Prefect said they are the hope of the Church in Angola. “Seeing the vast task of evangelisation I urge you not to be content with small plans or worse, to settle for life of comfort and security. Instead allow yourselves to grow in the light of the working of the Holy Spirit, the main agent of the Church's missionary activity”.
Sunday 15 July the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples went to Ujie where he celebrated Mass with the Bishops members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Angola and Sao Tomé on the 40th anniversary of the founding of the diocese of Ujie and the ordination of the first bishop, Bishop Moreira Dos Santos.
The diocese of Uije (in Latin: Dioecesis Uiiensis) is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Luanda. It was created on 14 March 1967. It has an area of 63,467sq km and a population of 1,337,000 including 686,310 Catholics gathered in 16 parishes. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 16/7/2007 righe 27 parole 286)
